What does this package do?
Report an additional battery brand or category (with branch): €69 net per registration, OfH assignment included.
A registration in the battery register only ever covers one brand in one battery category.
If you add a brand, or start selling a further category, that is not a change to your existing registration but an additional one.
This service covers exactly one such notification – 69 € net, for producers with a branch in Germany.
We file the notification through your ear account and assign the new registration to our approved producer responsibility organisation (OfH).
Without that assignment, a registration has been incomplete since 15 January 2026 – including a freshly created one.

When is a notification due – and when is it not?
Due as soon as a new combination arises:
- An additional brand – even if it is the same battery in different packaging.
- A further one of the five battery categories: portable batteries, batteries for light means of transport (LMT), starter batteries, industrial batteries, electric vehicle batteries.
Not due as long as brand and category stay the same:
- A new model or a new size of the same brand in the same category.
- A change of packaging or design.
- A change in sales volume – that goes through the annual quantity report, not through a notification.

What happens if a brand is not reported?

Your existing registration number does not cover it.
Amazon, eBay, Kaufland, OTTO and TEMU check brand by brand – a number for brand A does not unlock brand B.
- Fines of up to EUR 100,000 per infringement.
- Sales ban for the brand concerned, until the registration is demonstrated.
- Confiscation of profits – turnover from the unreported brand can be seized.
- Warning letters from competitors, with legal and court costs.

Liability for your retailers – anyone reselling an unregistered battery commits an offence themselves.
That is why retailers ask for the number brand by brand.

How does it work and what are the deadlines?
- Booking in the shop. One item per notification – if you need three, add the item to the cart three times.

Data collection. We get in touch and record brand, battery category and chemical system.
Missing details on the chemical system are the most common reason for queries from the authority.
- Submission. Once your details are complete, we file within 3 working days.
- Registration. stiftung ear typically processes the notification in around 3 days.
- OfH assignment. We assign the new registration to our OfH and send you the number.
- During the year. The new registration is covered from then on by our quantity reporting and evidence.
Important: the notification must be in place before the first sale of the new brand.
The BattDG has no de-minimis threshold – the obligation applies from the very first battery.

Why is my existing registration number not enough for the new brand?
Because the number is tied to the brand, not to your company.
The battery register keeps every combination of brand and battery category as a separate entry.
Marketplaces match the stored number against the brand of the listing – if the two do not go together, the check fails.
Does a notification without a German branch cost more?
No – both variants cost 69 €.
What differs is our role: with a branch you remain the producer in the legal sense and we file on your behalf.
Without a branch, our authorised representative performs the producer obligations for the new registration.
So book the variant that matches your corporate set-up – the price is the same for both.
I now also sell the same brand as a button cell. Is that a notification?
No. Button cells belong to the portable batteries category.
The category stays the same, so no new registration is needed.
Do report the unit numbers to us anyway, because button cells are shown separately in the quantity report and are capped separately in your service package.
How many notifications do I need?
Count the new combinations, not the products. Two new brands in the same category are two notifications.
One brand in two categories is likewise two.
Five models of one brand in one category, on the other hand, are none at all.
Is the price annual or one-off?
One-off per notification. The 69 € is for the procedure, not per year.
The ongoing management of the registration runs through your service package.
What if I later stop selling a brand I reported?
Then we deregister it. Until that is done, the reporting obligations continue.
Deregistration costs 48 € per registration, including the official fees and the exit from the OfH.
Does the notification also cover the device the battery sits in?
No, those are two separate registers at the same authority.
For electrical equipment you need your own WEEE registration under the ElektroG, again per brand and device category.
