What does this package do?
Battery deregistration with stiftung ear: €48 net per registration, i.e. per brand in one battery category.
A battery registration does not end when you stop selling – it ends when it is deregistered.
Until then, quantity reporting, take-back responsibility and evidence duties continue, even at zero turnover.
This service covers the deregistration of one registration: 48 € net, including the official fees of stiftung ear and the exit from the producer responsibility organisation (OfH).
Deregistration happens per registration, that is per combination of one battery brand and one battery category.
If you have several, add this item to the cart as many times as needed and tell us the brand name for each.

Is this service right for you?
- Yes – you are permanently stopping the sale of the batteries concerned in Germany.
- Yes – you are dropping one brand from the range while the others continue. Only the named registration is deregistered.
- Yes – your company is being wound up or merged and the registration should be closed cleanly.
-
No – you are only pausing, or sold nothing this year.
Putting a registration on hold is not provided for; a nil return is the right route, not deregistration.
-
No – you are only changing the brand name or the company name.
That is a master-data change, not a deregistration – please talk to us.
-
No – this concerns an electrical device.
A WEEE registration under the ElektroG is deregistered separately: Electrical equipment (ElektroG / WEEE).
Why does not deregistering cost more than deregistering?
-
The reporting obligations continue.
An existing registration obliges you to file the annual quantity report – even when the quantity is zero.
If it is not filed, the authority follows up.
-
Take-back responsibility does not end. Waste batteries of your brand keep coming back years after the last sale.
As long as the registration exists, they are attributed to you.
- Fines of up to EUR 100,000 per infringement – for missing reports too, not only for missing registrations.
- Running costs. OfH participation and management remain payable although no turnover offsets them.
- Deregistering later becomes more work once outstanding reminders and open reports have to be cleared up first.

How does it work and what are the deadlines?
-
Booking in the shop. One item per registration.
Tell us the brand name and the battery category – without that, it cannot be determined which registration is meant.
-
Final quantities. You report the quantities actually placed on the market up to the cut-off date.
This is the step at which deregistrations most often stall.
- Submission. Once your details are complete, we file within 3 working days.
- Processing. stiftung ear carries out the deregistration; the processing time is determined by the authority.
- OfH exit. We take the registration out of the OfH and confirm completion to you.
Please note: all obligations continue until the deregistration is fully completed.
Clear out remaining stock before the procedure runs.
Any further sale after deregistration would be a sale without a valid registration.
Frequently asked questions
I sold nothing this year. Should I deregister?
Only if you are stopping permanently.
For a year without turnover we file a nil return – that costs less than deregistering and re-registering later, and your registration number stays in place.
If you deregister and resume selling later, you need a full new registration.
How many deregistrations do I need?
As many as you have registrations. A registration is the combination of one brand and one battery category.
Three brands in the same category are three deregistrations.
If you do not know how many there are, we check your account beforehand.
Why is deregistration more expensive than an additional notification?
Because the official fees and the OfH exit are included in the price.
Deregistration also requires the final quantity report to be filed and the take-back responsibility to be closed off properly.
Otherwise the registration stays in limbo.
What happens to waste batteries that come back after deregistration?
They are still taken back – through the collective system your quantities paid into.
We charge the costs of the quantities actually arising as incurred; the deregistration fee does not cover them.
Do I also have to deregister my electrical device?
Yes, if you hold a WEEE registration for it – that is a separate procedure.
Battery and device are two registers at the same authority; a deregistration in one has no effect in the other.
The matching services are under Electrical equipment (ElektroG / WEEE).
Can I bring a deregistered brand back later?
Only through a new registration.
A completed deregistration cannot be reversed, and the old registration number does not come back to life.
So consider beforehand whether a nil return is not the better route.
