What does this package do?
Report an additional battery brand or category (no branch): €69 net per registration, filed as your representative.
Without a branch in Germany we act as your authorised representative – and thereby carry the producer obligations for every single registration that runs under your name.
When a brand or a battery category is added, that set of duties widens: take-back, quantity evidence and liability then apply to the new product as well.
This service covers exactly one such notification – 69 € net.
Everything that belongs to it is included: filing with the battery register of stiftung ear and assignment to our approved producer responsibility organisation (OfH).
Inclusion in our ongoing evidence work is part of it as well.

Is this service right for you?
- Yes – your company is based abroad, has no branch in Germany, and is represented by us as authorised representative.
- Yes – you are extending your range with a brand that is not yet in the register.
- Yes – you will be selling a further battery category.
-
No – you have a German branch.
Then we handle the notification as a service provider, without stepping into the producer obligations.
Same price, different scope: notification with a branch.
-
No – there is no registration yet.
Then start with the service package with authorised representative, not with a notification.
- No – this concerns an electrical device. A separate register applies: Electrical equipment (ElektroG / WEEE).
What does the authorised representative additionally take on?
Both variants lead to the same entry in the register. What differs is our role in it:
- With a branch, you remain the producer in the legal sense. We file on your behalf – an administrative step in your name.
-
Without a branch, the authorised representative performs your producer obligations.
Every additional registration widens that set of duties: for the new brand, take-back, recovery rates and the self-monitoring report have to be carried too, and the authority addresses us about them.
So book the variant that matches your corporate set-up.
A notification filed through the wrong route leads to queries from the authority and costs time you do not have before a sales launch.
What do marketplaces and authorities check?
-
The registration number, brand by brand.
Amazon, eBay, Kaufland, OTTO and TEMU match it against the brand of the listing.
A number for brand A does not unlock brand B – not even for an identical battery.
-
The authorised representative on file.
It is publicly visible in the ear portal and must actually cover the registration in question.
- Proof of OfH assignment. Mandatory for every registration since 15 January 2026, including for ones added later.
- The marking on the battery – crossed-out wheeled bin, chemical symbols for heavy metals.
What happens if the new brand is not reported?
- Fines of up to EUR 100,000 per infringement.
- Sales ban for the brand concerned; marketplaces usually block the listings immediately.
- Confiscation of profits – turnover from the unreported brand can be seized.
- Competition-law warning letters from competitors, with legal and court costs.
-
Risk to the existing representation – placing products on the market outside the reported scope calls the whole mandate into question.
So please tell us about range extensions before the goods ship.

How does it work and what are the deadlines?
- Booking in the shop. One item per notification – if you need three, add the item to the cart three times.
-
Data collection. We record brand, battery category and chemical system.
If the chemical system is missing, the authority comes back with queries – and that costs time.
- Mandate extension. We document that our authorisation also covers the new registration.
- Submission. Once your details are complete, we file within 3 working days.
-
Registration and OfH assignment. stiftung ear typically processes it in around 3 days.
We then assign the new registration to our OfH and send you the number.
- During the year. The new brand is covered from then on by quantity reporting and evidence.
Important: the notification must be in place before the first sale of the new brand.
The BattDG has no de-minimis threshold – the obligation applies from the very first battery, even if it merely comes bundled inside a device.
Frequently asked questions
Does the variant with a German branch cost less?
No – both cost 69 €.
The difference is not in the price but in the role: without your German branch we do not merely file, we perform the producer obligations for the new registration.
For producers with a branch, those duties stay with the producer.
So what decides your choice is your corporate set-up, not the price.
Does every new article number count as a notification?
No – what counts are combinations of brand and battery category, not articles.
Twenty models of one brand in one category run under a single registration.
Two brands in the same category, by contrast, are two notifications, and one brand in two categories likewise.
Which five battery categories are there?
Portable batteries, batteries for light means of transport (LMT), starter batteries, industrial batteries and electric vehicle batteries.
Since the BattDG, registration is per category.
Our OfH approval covers waste portable batteries; if you are planning a different category, please talk to us before booking.
Do I have to sign a new power of attorney for the new brand?
As a rule, no. We document the extension of the mandate and get in touch if the authority requires a separate document in a specific case.
There is nothing for you to prepare beyond the product details.
Is the price annual or one-off?
One-off per notification. The 69 € is for the procedure.
The ongoing representation and management runs through your service package with authorised representative.
What if I later discontinue a brand I reported?
Then we deregister it – the obligations do not end before that.
Until the deregistration is complete, quantity reporting and take-back responsibility continue.
Deregistration costs 48 € per registration, including official fees and exit from the OfH.
