Anyone selling goods to France must register for extended producer responsibility (responsabilité élargie du producteur, REP) before the first shipment. The proof is the Identifiant Unique (IDU), issued by the environment agency ADEME and published in the public SYDEREP register.
Since 10 July 2026 an authorised representative is mandatory. Article L. 541-10-9-1 of the code de l'environnement requires every person not established in France who is subject to REP to appoint a mandataire by written mandate. That role is performed by our group company ECOPV SASU, based in Strasbourg.
You receive one IDU per waste stream – anyone supplying both packaging and electrical equipment to France needs two separate registrations.

Marketplaces cross-check the IDU against the SYDEREP register and block listings without a valid entry. Since 12 August 2026 Amazon has verified packaging registration in every EU country in which you sell or store. Factor in the lead time and start well before your planned sales launch.

Which package do I need for France?
One per waste stream – there is no combined package for France. Electrical equipment (WEEE) and batteries cost 350 € per subcategory, packaging 220 €, in each case net per calendar year. If you ship a device in a cardboard box you need two packages: electrical equipment and packaging. If the device contains a battery, batteries is the third.
How are the registration costs for batteries and electrical equipment calculated in France?
Per subcategory: an annual fee of 350 € applies to each applicable product subcategory. So there is no flat price for “batteries” or “electrical equipment” as a whole – what counts is which subcategories your products actually belong to. For batteries, France distinguishes five subcategories: portable batteries, batteries for light means of transport (LMT batteries), industrial batteries, starting, lighting and ignition (SLI) batteries, and batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles. For electrical equipment there are three: household equipment, professional equipment and lamps. If, for example, you need to register portable batteries and industrial batteries, you pay 2 × 350 € = 700 € per year.
When should I order to be ready to sell in France by a given date?
Allow around three months and plan around the slowest stream. Electrical equipment and batteries take 6 to 10 weeks, packaging 8 to 12 weeks. The streams run in parallel, so you do not have to order them one after another. All figures are values based on experience, not guaranteed outcomes.
How often do I have to report in France, and who does it?
Annually, for all three waste streams – and we file the reports. All you supply is the volumes you placed on the French market during the reporting year. France therefore has one of the lightest ongoing reporting loads; Belgium, Italy and Poland require quarterly reports.
What minimum contributions are included in the French packages?
Electrical equipment and batteries each include a minimum recycling contribution of 200 €, packaging a minimum eco-contribution of 95 €. Up to those amounts the contribution is covered by the package price. Anything beyond depends on the volumes you report and is invoiced separately.
Does the French packaging package cover commercial and industrial packaging?
No. The package covers household packaging, meaning what ends up as waste at a private end customer. Commercial and industrial packaging is explicitly excluded. If you mainly supply business customers, talk to us before ordering.
What does an additional category cost in France – and deregistration?
20 € per subsequent notification and 20 € per deregistered registration. Categories form part of your registration: if one is added, it has to be reported. Brands are not recorded in the French registration, so there is no brand notification. An additional subcategory – for example industrial batteries on top of portable batteries – is not a subsequent notification but costs the annual fee of 350 €. You do not need a new annual contract for a subsequent notification.
