Processing times in Italy are among the longer ones in the EU, especially for packaging. If you want to be ready to sell by the turn of the year, start in late summer.

Which package do I need for Italy?
The combined package for electrical equipment and batteries together, otherwise the single packages. Electrical equipment costs 650 €, batteries 630 €, the combined package for both 1,000 €, packaging 250 € – in each case net per calendar year. Packaging is always a separate package and is not part of the combined one.
Is the Italian combined package worth it?
Yes, as soon as you need both streams: 1,000 € instead of 1,280 € – you save 280 €. The most common case is a device with a built-in battery, because you are then placing both an electrical device and a battery on the market. If you need only one of the two streams, the single package is cheaper.
Why does packaging registration take so much longer in Italy?
Because at 10 to 16 weeks it is the slowest procedure in Italy – electrical equipment takes 8 to 10 weeks, batteries 6 to 8. These are values based on experience, not guaranteed outcomes. If you want to be ready to sell at the turn of the year, start packaging registration in late summer and do not wait for the other streams.
How often do I have to report in Italy?
Electrical equipment and batteries annually, packaging quarterly. We keep the deadlines, you supply only the volumes. If you are registered for all three streams, Italy means four reporting dates a year rather than one.
What packaging volumes are included in the Italian package?
250 kg of paper and 50 kg of plastic per calendar year. Up to that point the contribution is covered by the package price. Volumes beyond it are invoiced separately after your report. For electrical equipment and batteries, 30 € of base recycling each is included instead.
What does a subsequent notification or deregistration cost in Italy?
66 € for electrical equipment and 36 € for batteries – per procedure, for notification and deregistration alike. You need a subsequent notification as soon as a brand or category is added. For packaging, deregistration costs 20 € per registration.
